Columbus, Ohio — Ohio State’s Somali Students’ Association scheduled its sixth annual Somali Night for 5 p.m. Feb. 1, 2025, in the Ohio Union’s Archie Griffin Ballroom, linking the campus cultural program to the organization’s 20th anniversary.

Preview coverage described an evening built around Somali poetry, dance and music. A student-produced riwayaad — the Somali term organizers used for the play — was also listed for the program, placing performance and storytelling at the center of the celebration.

The event connected university life to a broader Columbus cultural setting: Cabsi Cabsi, a Columbus-based Somali dance troupe, was slated to perform. Organizers also said Somali student groups from Michigan State University and the University of Minnesota would travel to join the gathering.

For the association, the anniversary was presented as a chance to recognize an organization that helps Somali students connect on campus while inviting attendees from other backgrounds to engage with Somali culture. The two contemporaneous reports characterized Somali Night as a cultural and community event, rather than solely an entertainment program.

Both available news accounts were published before the Feb. 1 event and describe plans, including a projected crowd. They do not independently document final attendance, the completed program or other post-event results.
